Snows Lake Vineyard, Lower Lake, California We harvest over 800 acres of high quality wine grapes in primarily four varieties - Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petite Sirah and Barbera. Our land in Lake County, CA is quite sloped so erosion was continually a problem…until we got our AerWay tandem viticulture unit. We had a fairly aggressive cover crop program in place using native grasses, some annuals and some perennials but found several areas showing stunted growth. After working with our AerWay as an over seeding platform through 2005, we have seen good fill in of previously stunted areas, increased cover crop volume and significantly reduced erosion. Some other surprising benefits were reduced dust allowing for increased photosynthesis and reduced dust mite problems. Our soil is primarily volcanic red with rocks, obsidian and Lake County diamonds…in short very tough soil.
